Crittenden Co.

H.M. COOK was born in Russell County, Ky., August 28, 1837, and is a son of Christopher and Alice (Yeakey) Cook. His father was born in North
Carolina, his mother in Barren County, Ky.; both were of German descent. In 1840 they came to this county and settled in Ford's Ferry
District. There the father died in March, 1876, the mother in February, 1863. H.M. is the ninth of fourteen children; the following are now
living: Mary, widow of Dr. John P. Wathens; Isabella, wife of John A. Flanary; Matilda, widow of Stephen Kendall; Sarah E.; L.E.; H.M.; C.C.
in Little Rock, AR; Dr. A.V. at Dexter City, Mo., and S.N., wife of
R.M. Wilborn. Subject remained at home until thirty years of age, and then settled on his present farm, where he now owns about 390 acres,
with about 175 acres in cultivation. He pays some attention to stock raising, handling about fifty head per year. Mr. Cook was married
September 3, 1867, to Miss Mary E. Carter, daughter of Judge D.W. and
Jane (Bennett) Carter. Judge Carter was born in this county and wasone
of the leading farmers of this region. He served as magistrate and constable in this district, and held the position of county judge for twelve years. Mrs. Cook was born in this county August 29, 1846, and is the mother of six children: Alice E., David P., Henry L., Thomas C., Inez A. and Robert B. Mrs. Cook is a member of the Baptist Church.Mr. Cook is a member of Hurricane Masonic Lodge.

I Henry Yeakey of the County of Crittenden & State of Kentucky beingof sound &
disposing mind but weak and feeble in body do make & declare this asmy last
will & testament. 1st I will & bequeath all of my Estate both real &personal
to my beloved wife Caroline M Yeakey to have and to hold to her ownproper use
and Behalf so long as she may live 2d I will and bequeath to my sonLevy Yakey
one Dollar in addition to what I have given him. 3d I will & bequeathto my son
Henry Yeakey one Dollar in addition to what I have given him. 4th Iwill &
bequeath to my daughter Isabella Shanks one dollar in addition to whatI have
given her & her husband Minter A Shanks. 5th I will & bequeath to mydaughter
Alice Cook & her children all of my Estate both Real & personal that Imay have
at my death, subject to the above condition, that is that said Alicenor her
children are not to have any of my estate either real or personaluntill after
the death of my wife Caroline M Yeakey as aforesaid. 6th & lastly Iappoint my
friends R A Walker & Francis Ford my Executors, and I desire that theyshall
attend to & defend a certain suit now pending brought by my negroesagainst me
for their freedom & use all means in there power to prevent thenegroes from
Recovering and the Expenses to be paid out of my Estate Given under myhand and
