    WILL:
    WILL OF LEWIS FRANKLIN

    Afflicted in body. To my beloved wife Sarah Franklin during her widowhood, my home and all buildings and that part of the farm she may need, all my slaves and all horses, jennets, cattle, sheep, hogs, poultry & c., furniture, farming tools, wagons, buggys, & c. I leave this choice to my wife to enable her to afford for my daughter-in-law, Rebecca Franklin widow of my son Albert M. Franklin, deceased & my grandchildren to live and reside with her without expense. And my grandson William H. Franklin, son of my deceased son Albert M. Franklin, my grandson James L. H. Franklin and Sarah Ann Franklin my granddaughter who are children of my son Benjamin P.Franklin, deceased shall live with my wife Sarah. I will to my son John R. Franklin 320 acres of land off the south end of the farm on which I now reside, divided off by a line running due east and west or parallel with the east and west section lines of said tract of land said land to be estimated to my said son and accounted for at the price of $10 per acre in the further provision of my will for the sum of $2000. Advanced by me to him during the past Spring of the year 1857. To William H. Franklin the west of the NW of Section 26 ,Township 50, Range 31, containing 80 acres, also the south west of north west of Section 25, in same T. & R. containing 80 acres , also the south west of north west of Section 25 , in same T. & R. containing 40 acres off of the south end of last tract to be divided by a line running east and west parallel with the south line of saidtract containing 120 acres and containing in all 320 acres to my sonWilliam H. Franklin at $10. Per acre. To said son William, the following slaves viz. one Negro man named Jack, aged about 30 years and one Negro boy named Primus, aged about 11 years now in the possession of my son William. My executor to sell all remaining lands in Jackson, Buchanan and Grundy Counties at auction, not for less than $15.00 per acre. After the death of my wife Sarah, sell all lands devised to her except a tract of land lying on the south side of the Independence & Lexington Roads to be laid off in a square so as to include the family burying ground which it is my will shall never be sold. My wife can sell any slaves that become unmanageable. Executors shall not sell the dwelling house in which Norman Vann now resides in Blue Bottom nor the forty acres in Blue Bottom including the field and spring situated in the timbered part thereof during the lifetime of Nancy Cowly to have the use of same as long as she lives without charge. My executors shall decide regarding my Negro man named Jerry aged about 23 years now hired to Joseph Williamson whether to sell or continue to hire him out. After $2000. Is taken out of son John R .Franklin's share, he to receive $6000., also $6000 to son William H.Franklin. $4000 to each son to be invested for my grandchildren James L. H. Franklin, William H. Franklin and Sarah Ann Franklin to be applied for education. Send them to the best schools in the country. In addition to the $4000., my grandchildren shall have the further sum of $6000 at age 21.
    Appoint son William H. Franklin & friend George W. Buchanan executors.
