August 17, 1760 / Dec. 7, 1760 at Old Swedes Church in Wilmington,Del.
Listed as "Johny Beshong" in marriage index #229. Listed as"John Bishong" in marriage index #2.
He served in the Revolutionary War and fought against the Shawnee Indians who were employed by the British. On November 20, 1781, he qualified as too poor to purchase land at the state price, so he was granted four hundred acres, on the Big Benson Creek, March 18, 1784.In Lincoln Co. John married Jannet Summers. She is believed to have been born in Kentucky in the 1760's. John and Jennet raised tobacco and other crops in Lincoln Co., which later became Franklin Co.
In the 1790's John and his family moved to Chillicothe, Ross Co.,Ohio.,They are noted as one of Ohio's first families. Ohio was still in the Northwest Territory and not a state. John homesteaded a farm near Chillicothe of about two hundred and thirty acres. Its location was described as follows:
Beginning at the sycamores at the mouth of Patrus, now running south 55 poles to a sugar tree , thence south 166 poles to a white oak, thence east 64 poles to a white oak, thence south east 38 poles to a hickory.....thence in a direct line to the Seido River, then with meanders back to the place of beginning.
On their farm they raised one of the oldest and most valuable apple orcahrds in Ross County . The farm was said, after John's death, to be worth $3500.
In 1822, John, who was described as old and infirm met and married the widow, Elizabeth Breedlove, November 14. John died in 1825 *about 65 years old (and probably was buried in Ross County. A law suit filed October 13, 1827 by John and Jennet's heirs alleged that Elizabeth married John only to get his property and to keep it from his children. The case was not proved.
John and Jacob were privates in the Revolutionary War serving with the Lincoln County, Kentucky Militia in 1781 and 1782. Also there is evidence that these two brothers were under the command of Brig. Gen. George Rogers Clark in the Expedition against the Shawnees in 1782.

John Bushong married Jannet Summers, daughter of Samuel,April 6, 1785 in Lincoln Co. He served with George Rogers Clark - April 27-May 27,1781 and again in 1782; He owned 400 acres of land on Big Benson Creek,,Southside of the Creek April 6, 1785, this land later became Mercer Co,Ky: John was one of the signers of a Petition to the Kentucky House of Delegates from the Inhabitants on the North Side of the Kentucky River in the district of KY, who stated that they had difficulty carrying their tobacco to the Warehouses at Jacks's Creek on the southside of the Kentucky River, date Nov. 2, 1789.
His parents were Andrew and Catherine 'Kit' Nidick Bushong of Montgomery Co VA, and his siblings were George who married Marthey David; Jacob who married Jane Nozler, Henry who married Issabella Summers and a brother Valentine. Henry and George lived in Barren Co,Ky. The rest of the family later emmigrated to Ross Co, Ohio.
swat@toast.net (SWAT) Bonita - The copy of the death certificate on JohnBushong listed his parents as Andrew of France and Nidick of France. (not this John Bushong, but another one I have n't located)John married Young, Jannet on 06 Apr 1785 in , Lincoln, Kentucky. Jannet (daughter of Young, Patrick and Todd, Isabella) was born about 1761 in , , Kentucky; died in Jun 1822 in Chillicothe, Ross, Ohio. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

SOURCE: BUSHONG BULLETIN 15:2 (SUMMER 1999) P. 28 - Five children were proven in Ross Co Ohio Chancery case dated 13 Oct 1827, in which heirs of John Bushong are protesting the Breedlove family taking over John's realestate and property. A complete transcript of this document appeared in the Bushong Bulletin, 1:2:3. In it, John Mitchell & Sally his wife, Jacob, Jemima & Delilah Bushong (children of James Bushong deceased)infants, vs Baylies Breedlove etal.
Among statements made in this document are: "...that the wife of said John Bushong and the mother and grandmother of your orator & others herein after mentioned have departed this life and the said John being old & inform was pirated and drawn into intimacy with one Elizabeth Breedlove, widow, and mother of Balies Breedlove; the marriage was solemnized on 11 Nov 1822 in this county, and Elizabeth with her family came to reside upon the land of John; John's children saw with regret that the said Elizabeth and sons were gaining an undue influence over their father, ...that their design was to wrest the farm from the old man, and if possible instead of breeding love to breed hatred malice and ill will between him and his own children. Some time after the conveyance was made, the said John Bushong, Nancy Young (wife of James Young) of age,and your orators Jacob Bushong,Jemima Bushong & Delilah Bushong, infants and children and heirs of James Bushong, son of John the elder and then lately deceased, that your orator John Mitchel & Sally his wife, for consideration since the decease of the ancestor had purchased all the right and title of the heirs John & George Bushong and James Young & Nacyhis wife... allright to the estate of their said Father, that the deceased John Bushong the ancestor left personal property of greatvalue..."
John Mitchell etal lost the case, but he later sued Baylies Breedlove for slander and was awarded $1,000 by the court. (Ross Co OhioChanceryRecords).
We believe she was actually Patrick Young's daughter, born the year of his death and so was probably given the name "Summers" since her mother married John Summers the same year of her husband's death. He would have been the only father she knew and it's likely he adopted her children. Read the comments under Isabella, legal documents mentioning their names, etc.

(Until I have proof that this is not the case, I will leave her with this family.)
Name:
"Summers" was probably her last name, due to her mother's remarriage shortly after her father's death.Notes:

SOURCE: Ellen Summers Marmor [ emarmor99@aol.com ] - There is noquestion
about the names of his children the will is easy to read. AlthoughJohn
Summers raised the children there father deserves to be remembered. You
will notice on Chalkley's the mis spelling of names. On the will
Isabella's name is spelled two different ways. Possibly written oneway
on the first spelling and corrected with the second spelling. Therewere
many people lost due to the fighting with the Indians and Patrick was
also a soldier (for lack of a better word)
Dave Rayburn has a map showing the area John Summers and Isabellalived.
I was in the area last Mothers day (2000). They were in the area of
Natural Bridge, this part of the country has narrow valleys and would
have been very, very hard work. That is probably part of the reasonJohn
and Isabella married so quickly after Patricks death. Our theory isJohn
and Isabella were part of the Boone expeditions into
Kentucky.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Patrick married Todd, Isabella about 1745 in , Augusta, Virginia, Usa. Isabella (daughter of Todd, Samuel and Houston, Ann) was born in 1733 in Armagh, Ireland; was christened in in , Augusta, Virginia; died about 1818 in , Barren, Kentucky. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
15. Todd, Isabella was born in 1733 in Armagh, Ireland; was christened in in , Augusta, Virginia (daughter of Todd, Samuel and Houston, Ann); died about 1818 in , Barren, Kentucky. Notes:
She appears to have been the widow of Patrick Young who dated his will
April 4, 1761 in Augusta County, Virginia. It was probated May 19,1761
and named as executor his wife, Isabella.
(Chronicles of Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia. Records of Augusta
Co, VA 1745 - 1800 by Chalkley Vol. III, p.62.)
In Patrick's will he names his wife, ISABELLA, and son, JAMES, and
daughters, SARAH, JANNET, and ALEXANDRIA. In the same source in Vol.II
p. 342 is a lawsuit of Summers vs Campbell where John Summers andwife,
Isabella, late Isabella Young, complain of James Campbell and Richard
Woods, dated June 23, 1761.
So, between May 19, 1761 and June 23, 1761 John Summers must havemarried
the widow Isabella Young. As further proof that this is the Isabellathat
John Summers married is from the same source in Vol. III, p. 78 dated
November 18, 1762 where John Summers makes bond with James McDowelland
James Trimble as guardian to orphans of Patrick Young who are Sarah,
James, Jannet and Alexandria Young. From the same source in Vol. I p.137
dated August 19, 1767, Sarah Young age 16 and James Young age 15,orphans
of Patrick Young, chose Samuel Todd as their guardian and he was
appointed guardian of Jannet and Alexandria Young also. Sarah was born
circa 1751. If her mother was at least 18 years old at Sarah's birth,
then Isabella was born circa 1733.
At first glance it seems strange that Isabella would marry so soonafter
her husband's death. However, she had four children under 10 years ofage
and the living conditions were rather primitive and impossible for a
woman alone to make a living. John Summers had a baby son, John, Jr,
about 18 months old and needed a mother for his child. So, apparently,
they married to solve both their problems.
