208 | Jacob Moose memorial Headstone In memory of Jacob Moose, Born in 1757 in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. Fourth son of immigrant parents, David and Elizabeth Moose, who came to America from Germany in 1751. Jacob married Barbara Buzzard in Pennsylvania after which the couple migrated to Cabarrus County, North Carolina becoming forbears of the entire Moose clan in this area. They built for themselves a log house by a spring near Little Bear Creek in 1784. From this union were nine children: Jacob, David, Henry, Daniel, Mary, John, Elizabeth, George and Barbara. Jacob died about 1804 prior to the establishment of a church in the community and was interred about 100 yards southeast of the spot on a site within his landholdings. The original house stood about 50 yards southwest of here. All nine children survived until 1830 when Elizabeth died. Barbara remained a widow until her death on March 24, 1848. She was buried at Bethel (Bear Creek) Reformed Church in Stanly County where she had been an active member since the church’s establishment in 1806. This monument was erected in 1976 by Archie G. Moose a great-great-grandson of that noble patriarch, Jacob Moose. | ||
