Hardy, Chesley W. (I980)

164 When I met Aunt Euggie in Apr 1990, I found her to be a quiet, refined,
intelligent lady with beautiful gray hair. She lived in a large two-story
white home across the street from the Post Office in Wylliesburg, Virginia.
The home was filled with beautiful, antique furnishings. She had a large bible which had belonged to Travis Ferrell, with his name engraved on it and several old tintype pictures of the Ferrell family. Her mother died when she was a few months old, leaving her father with four children, including a new-born baby. The oldest, was my mother, who was six years old. Aunt Euggie was given to her mother's parents to care for. She stayed with them the rest of their lives.

She was a very gracious hostess and very fussy about having everything
comfortable yet proper. She had taught school until her retirement right there in Wylliesburg, and was known not only in her town, but througout the
surrounding area as simply, Miss Euggie. She was 87 years old, but still lived in her own home and still drove her car. She read a lot and kept her mind active and alert. After lunch each day, she looked in on several of the
neighbor ladies who were ill and needed company.

Later, I asked her to send me a picture I had seen of Travis Ferrel's
family, she sent it to me along with a picture of her as a young girl and two
pictures of her classroom and students. I feel she wanted them preserved.

The Book, An intimate History of The American Revolution in Pittsylvania
County Virginia by Frances Hallam Hurt, by the Womack Press in Danville,
Virginia in 1976 says: The Dodsons of Ringgold live not too far from a
poignant reminder of their eighteenth century ancester, Joseph Dodson. This is Carter's Tavern which Joseph built in the 1700's-a marvel of used-to-be
elegance on the old Danville-Halifax Road at Elmo, near Brooklyn. - - -
The Dodsons' progenitor was Charles Dodson I of Richmond County, who died there in 1704." This information matches the Ancestral File. They have the death of Charles Dodson I as Feb 1705 in Richmond County.

Last name is also shown as Dotson on the Ancestral File.(Virginia Hardy Frazier)

December 4, 1762 Elisha Dodson and Sarah Dodson were baptized in the Broad Run Baptist Church, Fauquier County. Their son Elisha Jr was one of the infants received into the care of the church on 9 Oct 1763. It is indicated in such records that Elisha and Sarah Dodson were "dismissed to Halifax" - date not shown.

In 1774 Elisha patented 400 acres in Halifax Co and appears on the tax lists there from 1782 until 1787 when he apparently moved to Pittsylvania. He continues on the tax lists in Pittsylvania Co through 1796, so apparently died at at hat time. He had perhaps taken care of his estate distribution previously by a deed of gift to his children.

Ack by Elisha Dodson 16 May 1791

The Rev. Elias Dodson in writing his history of the family claimed that Elisha Sr was blind due to an eye injury in his youth; he also stated that Elisha Jr and perhaps daughter Peggy [Margaret] were born in Maryland. There's no explanation for this statement. [There were Dodsons in Maryland with some of the same given names, but they are of no relationship - some of the early researchers have confused the families.] Rev. Dodson stated that seven daughters were born before they had a son; he named two children that were not named in the deed of gift that perhaps had died before 1791. Eleanor is not named and she was still living.

ELISHA DODSON and SARAH EVERETT were married about 1748 in Richmond County, Virginia.51 SARAH EVERETT4,14 (daughter of WILLIAM EVERETT and MARGARET [EVERETT]) was born on 13 Apr 1729 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia.51,52 Father said to be William Everett, born 15 Mar 1691 in VA; his father was Daniel Everett.
