A LOVABLE WOMAN
PASSES FROM EARTH
______________
Death of Mrs. G. T. Olsen Casts a
Gloom Over Emery
______________
EMERY, Utah, Nov. 21
The death of Mrs. G. T. Olsen at midnight on Wednesday caused a feeling of deep sorrow to spread over the whole town. Giving birth to a son three weeks ago, unfavorable conditions shortly afterward followed but from these she rallied only to again sink till her hold upon life seemed at its end and then to rally again and arouse a hope within the breasts of her every watchful relatives and friends that her life was to be spared for further usefulness. The change Wednesday night steadily pointed to the conclusion that Death had touched her with his finger and surrounded by husband, mother and children the end came in peaceful slumber:
Then fell upon the house a sudden gloom
A shadow on hose features fair and thin
And softly from that hushed and silent room
Two angels ssued where but one went in.
Catherine M. Olsen was truly a lovable woman, a loving wife, a devoted mother and a true and sincere friend. Hers was a heart of gold and many flowers did the scatter in the pathway of others and let fall in the dark places of life the sunshine of her sympathetic heart. She idolized her husband and children and was in turn idolized by them. She carried them in her heart and her hand never wearied in caring and ministering to those she loved.
Deceased was the daughter of James P. and Catherine Edwards. She was born in Glendale, Kane county 44 years ago on Oct. 11 last. On Nov. 16, 1883 she was married to G. T. Olsen at Mayfield, Utah and later herself and husband were sealed at the Salt Lake or Manti temple. Eleven children were the fruit of this union, eight of whom survive their mother. Mrs. Olsen herself was one of a family of 15 children, five sisters and six brothers of whom are yet living. Her father died about six years ago, but her mother still lives. Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Olsen moved to Emery 18 years ago last June and both took a lively interest in its affairs and became strong factors in building up the town materially, socially and morally. Mr. Olsen engaged in farming, stock raising and the mercantile business and built and maintained several fine improvements. In all of his activities the clear mind and active and willing hands of his wife helped him to success.
Mrs. Olsen became active in all the church institutions, and for years has been a hard working president of the Relief society. While assisting her husband in his various branches of business and raising a large family she always had a minute or an hour to spare for the advancement of matters tending for the comfort and the betterment of others and the community at large. She was a born leader socially and commercially and her passing away is a sad loss not only to her family and intimate friends but to the whole community. Commercial men who have for years stopped at the Olsen house while visiting Emery feel a personal loss in the death of one who so kindly and gracefully presided there.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Sunday) at 2 p.m.
