Notes - Elam was a member of Capt. Nicholas M. Dawson's reinforcment company at
the battle of Salado Creek, and was killed in this action against Mexican
forces in September 1842.
"I received a wound in my shoulder early in the action and my two companions, J.B. Alexander and Elam Scallorn, were killed at my side. My father soon fell, and my brother I fear was mortally wounded. Death in every shape stalked through our thin ranks."
