Claude W. McClure was born in October, 1870 in McClure, IL. He was the youngest child of Thomas J. McClure and Caroline Overbey McClure. He attended St. Francis Catholic School in Cape Girardeau. later he studied at Bunker Hill Military Academy in Bunker Hill, IL. Around 1894 , he went to St. Louis, MO. There he became a member of the Merchant Exchange, trading in corn, wheat, and other grains. In St.Louis he met and married Lenora Agnes Dillon, who was born there in 1873. Later they returned to McClure. Claude farmed and engaged inbuilding stores in the town. He built the large general store, which he operated, selling groceries, produce, and household goods. He also built a grain elevator, which later burned. A devastating flood of 1903-04 ruined crops in McClure and vicinity, causing losses to Claude McClure. He and his family moved to St. Louis. There he engaged in the real estate business. Two daughters were born to this marriage.Gladys C. McClure was born in 1897 in St. Louis, MO. Dorothy V .McClure was born in 1898 in McClure, IL. They lived in New York City,NY. Both were fashion designers in the wearing apparel industry in New York City. Lenora A. McClure died in April , 1967, in Great Neck, NY. Dorothy V. McClure died in September, 1981, in New York City, NY .They are buried in the beautiful Flushing Cemetery in Flushing, NY.Claude W. McClure died in Cape Girardeau, MO, in October, 1947. He is buried in the McClure Cemetery. He was a Mason, member of Rose Hill Lodge No. 550 A. F. & A. M. (MO), St. Louis, MO.
