      Charles IV of France inherited the kingdom of Navarre upon the death of his brother, Philip V , King of France. This kingdom was supposed to have gone to their niece, Jane, daughter of their older brother, Louis X, but she was denied both succession to the throne of France, but her rightful inheritance to the Kingdom of Navarre, which had been her grandmothers. Jane claimed her right to Navarre when Charles IV died in 1328. Charles IV, the fair, youngest son of Philip IV, became the third son to gain the throne of France since his father died in 1314. Charles IV succeeded his brothers Louis X and Philip V to the throne in 1322 . He reigned until 1328, and was succeeded by a cousin, Philip VI, the Fortunate.
