The church was originally known as the Pine Grove Church when it was organized in the 1860's. Land was donated by A. J. Muckleroy for the church and school and is used for the cemetery. This is a Historic Texas Cemetery containing the graves of 150 U.S. veterans. The earliest marked grave is for Emma C. Menefee dated 1847 although some unmarked graves may be from earlier dates.
