Notes - NICHOLAS DISBOROWE, from Saffron Walden, Essex, was an early settler in Hartford, Connecticut. He was baptized 16 June 1613 in Saffron Walden, son of Nicholas, Sr. and Mary (Gylbye). His arrival here is not recorded but he may have been a member of Thomas Hooker's group who came in 1632 and eventually settled Hartford. Nicholas took part in the Pequot wars and later received a reward of land for his service. He was a joiner (cabinetmaker) by trade and is mentioned in a number of books on early American furniture, particularly noted for his distinctive chests. By his wife Mary (Brownson) he had four daughters. He died in Wethersfield, CT, in 1683.
