Troy Washington Moose and Italy Rome Acree met in early childhood,
attended the same school, were married February 13, 1915.

In the document that Thelma compiled it lists Italy as chr'nd in 1953(I
      don't know what this means).)

We were proud of all of our children and it was a struggle to clotheand
feed them, but we did it with the Good Lord's help, for we seldom ever
      had sick children.

Frances had bronchial pneumonia at the age of eight. She just knewthat
if her Granny was there she would be better, and she did too. HerGranny
Moose told all the neighbors to go home and she would look after her.
When Nell was nine years old she had dropsical swelling caused by
malaria. When Ted was thirteen years old he had acute appendices andhad
his appendix removed. Those were the only ones we had doctors tovisit.

Mom would like to talk of a few trips she has made.

On August 9, 1959, I went with Johnny, Frances, Allan, Alton and Glento
Abilene, Texas to a family reunion on Johnnies family. I met some nice
people. Troy Lynn had married Ann Mercer the night before. Ann's
daughter Terry went with us also. After a nice visit and huge dinner,we
went to Leaky, Texas. Then we went to visit Johnnies brother and wife,
Jim and Martha. Then to Dewey's house to visit him and Ann. We went to
visit my sister Essie and Marcie who lived at Franctis, Texas. Theyhad
just taken off to visit with Troy and Ted while I was gone. We cameback
to Johnnies on August 1, 1959.
In January of 1959, Troy and I had ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY EIGHT PEOPLE
      COME TO VISIT US.
January 28, 1959, Leonard left for Austin, Texas.
February 14, 1959, we moved back in our house at 413 E. Bolt.

I have typed this up before, and rearranged a little, please forgivethe
      redundancies.

      PLACES WE HAVE LIVED

After being married we went to Itasca, Texas to Troy's parents home.We
lived with them for two months, we were employed by a textile mill.Troy
was a clean-up man at a pay of $1.25 per day. I got $.50 per day as a
trainee on a machine getting cotton ready for spinning.

Then we moved into a boarding house, which cost us six dollars perweek,
but when autumn came we moved back to Hillsboro to pick cotton, work
which we both liked to do. We could average 700 pounds of cotton perday
(that was together) which paid us $2.80 a day. We stayed with myfamily
until we went to Bynum to another cotton farm. On March 15, 1916 our
first baby (Francis Louise) was born.

      1918

In 1918 we moved to Turkey, Texas on Uncle Wade Josey's farm. Oursecond
baby (Melba Cleo) was born, on March 4, 1918. We farmed ten acres of
cotton and two acres of tomatoes. We harvested the tomatoes and movedon
July 1, 1918 to Lynnville, Kentucky. We finished harvesting a cropthat
Daddy's renter had left. We had Eunice (my sister) and Frank gatherour
cotton which brought $.40 a pound which they sold and sent to us.

      1919

In 1919 we moved about five miles from Daddy and farmed cotton and
tobacco and got good prices. On December 21 another girl (Jackie Nell)
was born to us, we were proud of our girls.

      1920

In 1920 we tried farming again, but failed, we lost all our teams and
tools, we left there broke and went to pick cotton at Hickman,Kentucky.
Share croppers there offered us their half of their cotton to gatherit
for them, but we couldn't do it for cotton had dropped to $.06, so in
December 1920 we headed back to Texas to Troy's daddy's atJacksonville,
      Texas.

      1921

We lived with them until June 1921 then we moved to John Stallingsfarm
where we raised tomatoes and cotton. Jeanette Marie was born onOctober
      21. Troy got work sawing logs for a sawmill which paid him $2.00 a day.

      1922-1923

We moved to Summerfield and continued to cut logs in 1922. The log
haulers set fire to our house and we lost everything we owned, so we
found another house for $5.00 per month and we lived in it two months,
then the saw mill moved to Neches where he cut logs in 1923.

      1924

We rented a farm in Turkey, Texas next, and planted cotton andtomatoes.
Black-rot got the tomatoes and wet weather drowned the cotton, but one
good thing happened, our first son (Troy William) was born on March11,
1924. We were proud of him.

While there Troy had a fight with our landlord, he was Curt Bolton. He
turned his cattle into our cotton patch which Troy didn't like so he
penned them up to get damages which caused a fight between Curt andAbe
Bolton and Troy. Curt struck at Troy with an iron bar and he ducked
under and Troy stuck a knife in his back, then the other tried to take
the knife but Troy closed the knife on his hand. It wound up in court.
Troy was booked for attempted murder but was acquitted and the othermen
      had to pay court costs.

      1925

On March 11, 1925 we moved to Troup, Texas on Johnnie Johnson's farm
where we began to farm with a 32 year old mule and straight stock, wehad
29 acres of cotton which made 15 bales, and that meant good money!

      1926

On January 1, 1926 we moved to John Davis' farm which was adjoined tothe
Johnson farm, because Troy was hoping to get better land and mules to
work with, in hopes of being more able to take care of his family. On
January 18th, Grover Leon was born, that gave us two boys.

      1927-1928

We didn't make a good crop so we moved to Henry Chapel to the HarvyKersh
farm in 1927 then in 1928 we moved to Alf Martin's out of Troup, Texas
where Thelma Maureen was born on March 26, 1928.

      1929

In 1929 we lived at Walter Smidt's farm and we cleared up lots of new
ground which we had tomatoes and made a good amount of money.

      1930

In 1930 we went to Troup and farmed and made a complete failure, lost
      teams, tools, and everything.

      1931

In 1931 we moved to Marquez, Texas to help the Chamber of Commerceteach
farmers to grow tomatoes, we did good at first then black rot struck. In
August we moved again to Ganado, Texas. (Daisy Pearl was born onJanuary
25 before we left for Ganado.) We went to Ed Mikus' to gather cotton,
      then to Rich Square.
