- Horace White
Horace Walter White, 101, longtime resident of Ponca City, died March 28, 2003, at Winfield Rest Haven.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
A memorial has been established with the Westview Boys Home, P.O. Box 553, Hollis, OK. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
White was born Nov. 18, 1901, on a farm near Stanford, Ky., to Ada and William W. White. He served in the U.S. Army from 1919 to 1922 and then moved to Mississippi after being honorably discharged.
In 1924 White moved to Ponca City and was employed by Cities Service Gas Co. for 18-1/2 years. In 1942 he moved to California where he was a coppersmith in the shipyards.
On April 18, 1956, he married Lucy Harsh in Ponca City. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Los Angeles and later Gardena, Calif. They returned to Ponca City in 1971. In 1989 they moved to Winfield Rest Haven.
He was a member of the Grand Avenue Church of Christ in Ponca City.
His wife died Aug. 20, 2002. A son, Horace White Jr., also preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Eugenia Lethron, Newport, Wash., and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
