Notes - Came to Rumford Falls prior to his marriage in 1809, settling just south of Ebenezer Virgin of Swift River, near where the Public Library stands today. Here in partnership with Rufus Virgin, they utilized the water power at the head of the great falls. Within a few years, they had a carding & shingle mill, saw mill, and a grist mill there. This area above the falls become known as the Virginia section of town, and the area below the falls as Rumford Falls. He served as Town Clerk and Justice of the Peace at one time.
