appears as a widow, age 45, b. GA, heading a
household on the 1880 federal census of Columbus,
Muscogee Co, GA. She, her son James BELCHER (age
16, b. GA, and sister Louisa NEWSOM (single, age 40,
b. GA) all work in a cotton mill; her sister Frances
NEWSOM (single, age 42, b. GA), is keeping house.
This household is next door to the household headed
by [George] Freeman NEWSOM (in GMD, #773 Upper Town
- Volume 17, Enumeration Dist. 53, sheet 12, line
5), Elizabeth’s brother. Freeman, Elizabeth, Louisa,
and Frances are siblings to James NEWSOME who is
also buried in Clapp’s Cemetery.]
