A Lewis Duke signed a receipt for interest for the year 1786 for supplies furnished to Robert Caborne which totaled £ 11:4 . This is found on the reverse side of SC Rev. War Indent AA-977-a. Date 2-2-1786. Found in Hollingsworth Genealogical Card File on microfilm.
Deed of Gift, Fairfield district, SC. 11-7-1808, by Lewis Duke for "natural love & good will" to "my natural born sons Enoch Duke and Darling Duke." 50 acres on 25 Mile Creek adj. Moses Duke & Edward Sims. Also 40 bu. corn; 1 bay stud 3 yrs. old; two cows & "all my household furniture that are now at present in my dwelling house." Wit: Geo. Watts, Edward Sims. This Indenture made and
entered in this 14th day of December eighteen
hundred and forty six between Enoch Duke and
Benjamin Lancaster both of the County and State
aforesaid. Witnesseth that the said Enoch Duke for
and in consideration of the sum of twenty five
dollars to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is
hereby acknowledged him and doth by these presents
remiss, release and forever quit claim to lot of
land Number two hundred and twenty nine (229) in the
third (3) district of Originally Muscogee now Marion
County containing two hundred two and a half acres
more or less with all the rights members and
appertunances to the said lot of land in any wise
appertaining and belonging to the said Benjamin
Lancaster his heirs and assigns to him and to hold
the same so that I the said Enoch Duke and my heirs
nor any person or persons claiming under me or them
shall at any time hereafter by any way or means have
claim or demand any Right Title to the aforesaid
premises or its appertunances or any purpose.
Whereof in testimony whereof of the said Enoch Duke
have here unto set his hand and affixed his seal the
day and year first above written.
