Eugene Mirt ''Gene'' Mitchell, 58, of 6772 Scoter Drive, Midland, died Thursday at his home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, with burial in Parkhill Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Mitchell was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Atlanta, son of Mildred B. Mitchell of Columbus and Eugene Mirt Mitchell Jr. A resident of Columbus since 1943, he was a graduate of Columbus High School, Northwest Junior College, Senatobia, Miss., and University of Mississippi, Oxford. He was a member of the B.K. Biskit Boys and a former member of the Georgia High School Athletic Association, the Rotary Club of Rutledge, Ga., the PGA, the Methodist Men, and was a former board member of the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. He worked in sales with F&W Marketing Co. and was a member of Wynnton United Methodist Church and a teacher of their New Seekers Sunday school class.
Survivors other than his mother include his wife, Nancy J. Harris Mitchell; a son, Eugene M. Mitchell IV of Baton Rouge, La.; three daughters, Faye M. North of Columbus, Amy M. Rice of Fortson and Michelle L. Mitchell of Midland; three step-daughters, Jayne H. Elder of Burlington, N.C., Ann F. Holmes of Tampa, Fla., and Laura H. Polk of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, J. Dennis Mitchell of Norcross, Ga., and Barry A. Mitchell of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two sisters, Judy M. Arnett of Atlanta and Jenny M. Collins of Columbus; 11
