Notes - A Brief History of Woodstock
The town was settled 1686 and was called New Roxbury, after their town in in which the first settlers came from Massachusetts. Like other towns settled by inhabitants of Massachusetts,Woodstock was first under jurisdiction of that state. This was based on a 1713 boundary agreement that was nullified in 1747 because it had never been submitted for English approval, and so in 1749 this town and other son the border were annexed by Connecticut and incorporated by its General Assembly. Today Woodstock is a rural community primarily devoted to dairy farming. Woodstock is also the site of the Old Quasset School, the oldest one room schoolhouse in the United States still in continuous use.
