Barb McGee - Jul 5, 2004 Edit | Delete | Viewers | Reply to this item I knew Charles Petty personally, in his old age. He owned a car dealership in both Huricane and here in Salt Lake. He, along with my Aunt May Petty (wife of my Uncle Alexander Petty) wrote the original Petty Book. He was a controversial person, and a great story teller. He was the kind of person you all would like. He listened and remembered stories about everyone, and when it came to writing his book he had a lot of anticdotes to tell on the family that were quite humorous. Some of them will be in our book (giving him credit for his stories.)

His family live here in Salt Lake, and one daughter died this past year, but I believe the rest are still alive.

Newman, his son is in his 90's but is still active in business, and handles the estate of Charles. He also has a home by his daughter in Mesa Arizona where he often goes in the winter to get out of our cold weather.

Some of his family have been invited on this site, but I'm not sure they visit it often.

Hurricane is an interesting town. They voted at one time, (and I don't think it passed the city council) to outlaw the United Nations from Hurricane City Limits.

Charles married Cottam, Maggie on 25 Jun 1908 in St George, Washington, Utah. Maggie was born on 21 Sep 1886 in Saint George, Washington, Utah; died on 28 Jul 1972 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah; was buried on 02 Aug 1972 in Sunset Lawn Memorial, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah.
