In the 1860 census she is living with her grandparents Lewis andSarahand her half-brother Ja mes HL(b.1842)
This was sent to me by a descendant of Sarah Eliza Petty(Daughter of Ralph Petty and Isabella McClure) who married Lewis Franklin.
If you follow the link given, you will read a lot of information of other folks that have names that we are interested in. Chiles, Faries etc.
" I found this paragraph in a biography of Henry Chiles who was a partner of my ancestor, Upton Hays in Jackson Co., MO. The Widow Chiles was trying to save her family and possessions during the Civil War and this occurred in about 1862 or 1863.
"The Widow Chiles had to act fast. She knew, from the events taking place at that time, that everything would be burned to the ground including the crops, just as soon as they obeyed the order. She hid the silverware along with the preserves and other fruits and vegetables that they were unable to carry, in the cellar. The cellar was in the center of the house with a hidden trap door. If the house was burned, the contents of the cellar probably would not be disturbed. She rigged up a wagon to be drawn with oxen to carry the few household things necessary to sustain herself and her four children. There was also a 16 year old orphan girl that lived with the Chiles family. Her name was Sarah Ann Franklin, granddaughter of Reverend Lewis Franklin, the Six-Mile Baptist Church preacher. She had lived with Rev. Franklin until his death in 1860. In later years her daughter would marry Azubah Chiles' grandson." - (shawhan.com/families/chilesw.rtf)
The Chiles family lived somewhere near Ft. Osage where our Lewis Franklin (who md Sarah Eliza Petty) lived in 1850 so the Sarah Ann Franklin was probably his granddaughter. I looked in my file and it seems she was the daughter of Benjamin P. Franklin a son of Lewis Franklin and Sarah Eliza Petty. Sarah m. Joel Rufus Hudspeth and their daughter Elvira Beall Hudspeth m. Franklin Perrin Chiles in 1897. My file gives Lewis Franklin's death as 1870 and this account says 1860 - which may be more likely as I couldn't find him in the cesuses after 1850."
Sarah married Hudspeth, Joel Rufus on 15 Aug 1866 in Fort Osage Twp, Jackson, Missouri. Joel was born on 21 Nov 1839 in Independence, Jackson, Missouri; died on 27 Feb 1895 in , Jackson, Missouri; was buried in Mar 1895 in Hudspeth Cemetery, Jackson, Missouri. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

20. Franklin, George A. (5.William2, 1.Lewis1) was born on 11 Dec 1850 in , Jackson, Missouri.
Notes:
Need to find out about the Tucker children, did George Franklin adopt them??? Why are they listed as sons and daughters in the Census??? It clearly states that the Tucker children's parents are both born in Virginia. But it also states that Freddie and Effie's father was born in TN. It shows that George Franklin was born in Missouri.
George married Wilson, Alice Sedwick on 03 May 1871 in Independence, Jackson, Missouri. Alice was born on 06 Feb 1853 in High Grove, Jackson, Missouri. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
