McKAMY were to settle the business.... about 5 Nov 1821 JOHN McEWEN died testate, leaving wife ELIZABETH, ROBERT H. McEWEN, and MATTHEW STEPHENSON as his Execs., and the partnership was permitted to continue, up to the time of the death of JAMES McKAMY which occurred about Sep 1826....administration on the estate of JAMES McKAMY was granted to his wife POLLY and his brother WILLIAM C. by Co.     Papers of Robert Houston McEwen (1790-1868), merchant of Kingston, Fayetteville, and Nashville. He was also Regimental Quartermaster for Colonel John Brown's Regiment in the War of 1812 and Superintendent of Common Schools in Nashville.

    The papers are composed of accounts, 1833-62; biographical and genealogical data; correspondence; invitations; programs; notices; land records; estate papers from 1858 of John A. McEwen (son of Robert); a Confederate bond; several Civil War photographs; and a few miscellaneous items. The bulk of the correspondence is from W.B. Robinson, McEwen’s business partner 1835-43.     Mayors of Nashville

    An act to incorporate the town was passed by the Legislature September 11, 1806. It as made the duty of the sheriff of Davidson County to hold an election at the court house on the 1st of October, in each and every year, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and six Aldermen for the town. The day of election was changed to the first Monday in October each year, on Oct. 9, 1806.

    1857-1858 - John Alexander McEwen was born in 1822, probably in Fayetteville, Lincoln Co., TN, son of Robert Houston McEwen and Hetty Montgomery (Kennedy) McEwen. He was married on October 19, 1848 to Elina J. Frierson, in Maury Co., TN. He served as Mayor, 1857-1858. Mayor McEwen died in 1859.
