      Marselis (Marselus)
      MARSELIS JANSE, b. at Bommel in Guilderland, Holland, came early to Beverwyck where for many years he was an innkeeper and farmer of the burger and tapster excise of beer, wine &c. He seems to have been a man of good capacity and large business. His children settled in Albany, except Ahasuerus and Gerrit, who removed to Schenectady. He made his will June 11, 1690, proved in Kingston, May 22, 1722, and d. before 1700. His wife was Annatie Gerritse. Ch. Gysbert; Huybertje, m. Joseph Yates; Sytje, m.       AHASUERUS, cordwainer, son of Marselis Janse Van Bommel, m. Sara, dau. of Takel Heemstraat of Albany. He removed to Schenectady about 1698. Ch. bp. in Albany; Johannes, June 26, 1698; Dirk, Jan. 5, 1700; Johanna, Jan. 26, 1701, m. Johannes Van Vorst; Gysbert, June 4, 1704; Takel, Jan. 1, 1709; Annatje, March 6, 1711, in Schenectady, m. Thomas Christiaanse; Maritie, March 8, 1713, in Albany; Trientien, July 31, 1715, m. Jan Baptist Van Vorst; Ahasuerus, Dec. 15, 1717; Abraham, July 8, 1721; Isaac, June 29, 1723.

      GERRIT, son of Marselis Janse Van Bommel, m. Bregie Hanse in 1687, and with his wife and one child was killed in the massacre Feb. 9, 1690. One child, Myndert, was saved, and was living in Schenectady in 1709.

      JOHANNES, son of Ahasuerus, merchant, made his will Feb. 2, 1732; owned house and lot No. 23 Front Street, which, in 1753, his wid. occupied. He m. Sara, dau. of Claas De Graaf, Jan. 12, 1725.       CLAAS, cordwainer, son of Johannes, m. Lena, dau. of Dirk Marselis, April 30, 1757. He is said to have been killed by lightning in 1766, while crossing the Mohawk River in a canoe. Ch. b: Elisabeth, Nov. 27, 1785, m. Jacob I. Clute; Isaac Vrooman, Feb. 18, 1788, m. Catharine, dau. of Ezra Cady of Columbia County, and subsequently settled in Onondaga County; Lena, Dec. 11, bp. Nov. 20, 1789 [Church Records], m. Silas Andrus, publisher, of Hartford, Conn., both now dead; Nicholas, March 12, 1792, graduate at Union College; minister in Dutch Church; m. Jane, dau. of Col.
